Ivy Pierre, like his father and grandfathers, has trawled shrimp since he was 14. But like many other tribal members who have taken up the traditional work of the Houmas, Pierre has not set out onto Louisiana’s bayous and gulf waters with his own boat since Katrina and Rita hit more than two years ago. Still in need of repairs, his boat sits on the Bayou Dulac near Shrimpers’ Row, the lane Pierre and his wife, Lillian, call home.
