Finishing up

Four days remain for the AIJI class of 2007.

Four days? What...You're kidding right?

Oh, you're serious huh?

Really? This can't be good.

I must have misplaced time somewhere because it feels like I’ve been here about five days, not 17, and I don’t know about other students but I am not ready to leave.

I’m not ready to face the world without the team of support that accompanies me here at AIJI. I’ve come to rely on the faculty that never hesitates to give helpful tips and positive reinforcement, and now I’m being thrown into the real world.

I’ve heard stories about that place; stories that include mean people in great numbers that lack the ability to laugh. So unless there is a scheduled dinner program on how to deal with that place I’m not going to be ready in four days.

This must be one of those sink or swim missions and I’m about to be thrown in without my water wings. The real world?

I’m not going out there, you can’t make me.

  • Tell us what you think about the 'Navajobama' T-shirt, and we'll send your comments to the manufacturer—and to the Obama for President campaign. (No profanities, please.)

  • A Native American gay wedding ceremony takes place at a Two Spirit gathering in Montana.

  • Omission disappoints Native Americans attending the presidential candidate's speech in Wisconsin. Others express concern over Obama's stance on Indian gaming.

  • A Tennessee high school, whose mascot is the Indians, takes the Native American motif one step further: It calls school grounds "The Reservation."

  • The Native actor’s role on 'Law and Order: SVU' is coming to an end, but he plans to stay busy with an Internet TV show, a book and a new baby.
