"The purpose of the Northern route is to continue and carry the message from the Longest Walk of 1978: "The Longest Walk is an Indian spiritual walk, a historical walk; and it is a walk for educational awareness to the American and the world communities about the concerns of American Indian people. This route will carry the message of Renewing the Spirit by Walking in the Footsteps of our Ancestors. This walk is to commemorate the Longest Walk in 1978- those who walked then and those who walk now. We are walking to bring awareness of the struggle to protect sacred sites."
A few folks, me included, in the Colorado region are already working with the Longest Walk Northern Route walkers which will enter Colorado March 14th and progresses through until April 7th.
During this portion of their journey we wish to lend all the support we can during this challenging winter climate for the walkers, and help to spread awareness of this walk that illuminates Sacred Sites issues, current Native struggles, Native historical sites, and environmental concerns of Native Americans all over the country. They will trek all the way across America in two routes, stopping at these important locations, offering prayers, and literally cleaning up the roads as they move to Washington D.C.
If you are able to lend any support during this time, whether a simple donation, supplies needed, speaking engagements or participation in walker support such as medic aid or housing logistics when they rest, please contact me soon, it is fast approaching and we need all the help we can get!
If you have friends or organizational connections such as faith. social justice, or educational institutions in any of these locations along the route (check the website for the rest of the entire route) in Colorado, please also get this word out to them.

NEEDED Items: I have read that the Northern Route may be especially in need of warmer clothing such as wool socks and thermals-I'd chance it to say lots of hand warmers will also be very much appreciated, but their entire WISH list is here. It is also very helpful to donate gas gift cards:
