ARCATA, Calif. To mark Columbus Day, Margi Waller (pictured at right)
wore her "Wanted Columbus" T-shirt, which depicts the voyager with Indian
arrows stuck in his forehead and neck.
Humboldt State University, where Waller works as an assistant professor in
the Department of Social Work, observes the Oct. 9 holiday, but it's not a
day off for students, staff and faculty.
Since 1996, students and faculty at Humboldt State have countered Columbus
Day with a series of lectures and events known as Indigenous People's Week.
