Native land reviews

Gas prices today make a dent on a $50 dollar bill with one trip.  This week the only thing that made going to the dentist exciting was the chance to see three communities: Upper Sioux, Lower Sioux, and Prior Lake. The Upper Sioux was the first stop and that campground exploded with fun and adventure.  Then learning that they rent Tipi's at the local state park set my mind racing for what weekend we could free up.  Fear of the dentist had me living on tums the 197 mile drive.  Then, I found a free night at Mystic in the mail and decided my friend needed to see the museum inside and

Santee Sioux on the river

The river flowed softly all night and the air was hot and humid.  The Santee Sioux Nation is close to Yankton Sioux Nation so we climbed into the car to check out the reservation.  It had a great big gas station with lots of specials and a cool bingo hall.  The view from the road was spectacular.  Darn, we missed the wacipi.  Nebraska has hills compared to the flat lands of Southwestern Minnesota.  Kari is still wondering if she can continue to collect spoons from Mc Donalds.  The lady behind the counter knew Princella Parker.  Small world she laughed.  AIJI was  tons of fun.  Yankt

Sweet Land a movie of culture

A German lady comes to America to marry a man she has never met. She wants a family and home. The world does not welcome people who are from Germany. This ties in somewhat to how people are treated even in today's world. The young woman has to learn English. She tries several times to get the proper papers to get married. Shot down everytime. Her fiance receives little help from the community. This is a lovely story based on the novel A Tombstone Made of Wheat. The movie does not follow the plot of the book which could have made the ending more exciting.
